Strengthening Children Protection System for Redressing Domestic Emotional Abuse of Children: Bangladesh Perspective
Chowdhury, Mirza Farzana Iqbal
Children abuse is a threat to the development of children. Emotional abuse is such a classification of children abuse which kills children’s mind silently but deeply. Although the government and non-governmental organizations are taking many steps to prevent other kinds of children abuse such as physical abuse or sexual abuse, but due to silent killing nature of emotional abuse it is quite unaddressed and un-redressed by them. In this paper I tried to discuss the aspect of emotional abuse elaborately and its impact on children’s psychology. A structured questionnaire survey was conducted to examine the level of emotional abuse among the respondents. The field survey shows that families are not conscious about their treatment of children. So my concentration was to focus on the life-long impacts of the emotional abuse on children and to recommend a strengthened children protection system including community people to prevent and protect children from emotional abuse.

The prevalence of cigarette smoking was 93% and 20% of total income was spent on cigarettes indicating more than twice as much as per capita expenditure on food, clothing, housing, health and education combined, resulting in illiterate, malnourished household members. Though most (32.3%) of the drivers started smoking before involving in driving profession, excessive smoking was promoted by occupational and environmental stress experiencing hectic work schedule. Tobacco can also worsen poverty among users and their families since most of the drivers reported heart disease (26.9%) and other health complications caused by smoking, depriving families of much-needed income and imposing additional costs of health care. Around 70% smokers wished to quit smoking considering its detrimental effect but unknown of quitting strategy. Interventions and preventions by policy makers, public health experts and other stakeholders should be introduced because smoking was more prevalent among bus drivers with detrimental health sequel.

Shafiul Islam, Sheikh Mohammad; Marjan, Syed Mahfujul Haque
The media booming especially the rise of satellite television channels is a significant phenomenon in the landscape of Bangladesh media which was initiated after the fall of autocratic regime in 1990. At present, twenty four satellite TV channels are in operation under the corporate ownership. These satellite channels are presenting hour-round news and views on different events and affairs. The state-owned BTV was the sole medium to cover and disseminate news, information and entertainment to the country-wide audience till 1999. Within a period of one and a half decade, ‘the media boom’ that Bangladesh is experiencing is not noticed in many other countries of the South-Asian region. In spite of this significant change in terms of quantity and ownership pattern, there still lacks a comprehensive broadcast policy to guide day-to-day operations of the channels. The article, in this backdrop, presents trend of the ever-growing satellite channels in covering news. The article also explores interests of the TV channels in terms of news selection, treatment and presentation.

A Comparative Study Of Importance Between Phonological Awareness And Phonics For Reading Skill Development
Shamsul Hoque, Mohammed
Both Phonological awareness and Phonics contribute to developing the reading skill of a learner. But there are subtle differences between the technical forces of the two. The Paper attempts a comprehensive study of comparison between the potential of the foremost devices and reach the final point in order to establish the thesis that Phonics plays a more crucial role in developing the reading skill than Phonological awareness does. A conclusive decision has been drawn after a critical and analytical study of the two that place one over the other in importance, namely Phonics precedes the Phonological Awareness in developing the reading skill.
