CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN THE BANKING SECTOR: A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON SOME COMMERCIAL BANKS IN BANGLADESH
Hassan, Md. Arif
This paper scrutinizes the practices of corporate social responsibility
(CSR) by commercial banks in Bangladesh and to assess the need to improve CSR by
such organizations. The purpose of the study is to observe the framework of CSR
areas and contribution to those areas by the Private Commercial Banks (PCB) and
State Owned Banks (SOB) of Bangladesh. This study found that the contribution
amount by commercial banks to CSR activities is very insignificant in proportion to
their profit amount. This study suggests that a proper guideline by Government
regarding CSR contribution, involvement of large corporation in CSR activities and
mandating CSR disclosures in the annual report will fulfill the intended goals of the
corporate organizations and also ensure a successful and sustainable development
of the society.

AN ANALYSIS OF EXPORT AND IMPORT GROWTH OF BANGLADESH: A STUDY ON READY-MADE GARMENT (RMG)
Nargis, Nusrat
This paper attempts to identify the challenges of ready-made garment
(RMG) exports of Bangladesh. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the export
challenges of Bangladesh. It has been identified that Bangladesh highly depends on
ready-made garment (RMG) exports for its foreign exchange earnings. In spite of
great challenges, the country became the world’s second largest exporter of garment
goods to the European Union. It also exports a significant amount of goods to the
United States. This study identified that the country would lose its buyers if it delayed
to take necessary actions for the recent crisis created in this industry. The buyers are
warning the country to take immediate steps to solve the crisis. Otherwise,
Bangladesh maybe deprived of getting the benefits of Generalized System of
Preferences (GSP). To bring back the confidence of the buyers, Bangladesh has to
act quickly and promptly by introducing new labor laws for the garment workers.

so different types of food crops are produced here in plenty. In this connection, it is
crucial to make an efficient marketing system for all types of agricultural crops. In
this study, the marketing system of food crops was examined with the help of primary
data collected from Chakrakhali pillage of Batiaghata upazilla. This paper
investigates that the middlemen acquire the largest margin of rofits. Consequently,
the farmers are always deprived of their just shares. Besides this, the farmers face a
lot f problems regarding storage of produced crops, credit facility etc. The findings
of this study suggest that government intervention in the form of price commission;
auction system, cooperative marketing setting, to rage facilities and proper funding
are desirable to ensure justice for all the market participants
