Dietary behaviors are fundamental in the progress of almost all diseases including hepatic lipid accretion, known as “nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)”. Be that as it may, there are restricted examinations in regards to the dietary propensities for patients with perpetual liver illness. This pilot study was carried out to evaluate feasibility of a large-scale project in terms of data collection and research process. A cross-sectional examination was directed on 20 NAFLD patients going to the outpatient division of Bangladesh Institute of Health science (BIHS). All patients underwent abdominal ultrasound, biochemical tests, dietary evaluations, and anthropometric evaluations. Their food intake was measured by a food-frequency questionnaire and 24-hour food recall. The mean age of the patients was 53±1.8 years, 50% of the individuals were men, most participants were overweight and 30% had NAFLD with fibrosis. There was no significant difference in nutrient intake and fat related diet behavior between patients with and without fibrosis. Yet fat related diet was found to be significantly associated with high LDL cholesterol levels and age. Due to small sample size, no significant impact of diet pattern was observed on the severity of NAFLD patient among included subjects. Future studies need to be carried out with a larger sample size and among subjects not exposed to diet intervention.

<description>Prevalence of Overweight and Obesity in South Asian Countries
Haque, Anamul; Ghosh, Susmita
Childhood obesity is a global health problem with immediate and long-term health consequences. The increasing trend of childhood overweight &amp; obesity has emerged as a major public health threat. The study reviewed relevant articles on prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity in South Asia during 2008 to 2017. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence of childhood overweight &amp; obesity in South Asia. Literature search was done in accessible logical open areas, for example, Google Scholar, PubMed, Bio-Med central and Science Hub from the most recent ten years. Extra investigations were likewise recognized through cross-references and sites of authority organizations. Twenty primary studies were included in the final review, of which were conducted in schools settings in the South Asian countries; Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka. The prevalence of overweight and obesity showed wide variations in the included studies. The study showed that the prevalence rate is higher in Bangladesh, India &amp; Pakistan and relatively lower in Bhutan, Nepal &amp; Sri Lanka. This survey indicated expanding patterns in the commonness of overweight and weight rates among children in South Asia. This investigation underlines on the earnest need to advance solid ways of life among children to handle childhood overweight and corpulence.

Oral disease is a common public health problem in Bangladesh. Lack of awareness and improper treatment facilities are the main cause of poor oral health condition in our country. This study was conducted to assess the level of knowledge on oral hygiene among the patients attending selected private dental clinics. A descriptive cross-sectional type of study was utilized, among the patients who attended private dental clinics in Chittagong area of Bangladesh. A total of 160 patients were selected purposively and interviewed using a pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire. The mean age of the respondents was 29.20±4.31 years. About 73.1% of the respondents were male and more than half (55.0%) of the respondents had bachelor degree and above, followed by secondary school level of education (19.4%). 73.1% of the participants used to brush their teeth more than twice per day, 55.6% of the respondents used to spent 1-3 minutes while brushing their teeth and the rest spent more than 3 minutes brushing their teeth. The findings revealed that majority of the patients had fair level of knowledge regarding the oral hygiene. The level of knowledge was found to be significantly associated with educational level and monthly income of the respondents.

Several experiments were carried out to ascertain the nutritive value of two locally available marine fish (Pampus argenteus known Pomfret and Lates calcarifer known as Coral) on their different physical condition. Organoleptic, chemical and biochemical parameters were used to evaluate the influence of iced storage, boiled and fried on the samples. Three days ice stored raw materials exhibited excellent quality on the basis of physical characteristics. Moisture content of Pomfret (Pampus argenteus) and Coral (Lates calcarifer) were increased with the storage time and ranged from 57.72% to 72.59 % and 56.65% to 73.43% respectively. Protein content increased and the values ranged from 12.85 to 23.47% and 13.67 to 24.76% respectively for the two fish samples in boiled and fried condition. With the progress in storage period lipid content decreased in boiled condition but gradually increased in fried condition and ranged from 14.59 to 19.95% and 14.66 to 19.77% respectively for samples. Ash content increased in boiled and fried condition and the values ranged from 1.23% to 3.76% in Coral and 1.96% to 2.33% in Pomfret. The Total Volatile Base Nitrogen (TVB-N) values of the two samples increased slightly, for Pomfret (Pampus argenteus) the TVB-N value ranged from 7.54 to 11 mg/100g; for Coral (Lates calcarifer) it ranged 7.5 to 12.5 mg/100g.
