dc.description.abstract Neuroinflammation is a complex process that occurs in the brain and nervous system in response to injury, infection, or disease. While acute inflammation is a necessary protective mechanism, chronic neuroinflammation has been implicated in the pathogenesis of several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Syndrome and Parkinson's disease. In these conditions, the presence of abnormal proteins and other molecules triggers an immune response, which leads to chronic inflammation and damage to nerve cells. The resulting neuroinflammation disrupts normal neural function and contributes to the progressive loss of cognitive and motor function that characterizes these diseases. A better understanding of the mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation and its contribution to neurodegenerative disease may lead to the development of novel therapeutic approaches aimed at reducing inflammation in the brain and slowing or halting disease progression.
