dc.description.abstract Henna leaves (Lawsonia inermis) have long been recognized for their potential hair growth properties and have been utilized in traditional practices. This review article aims to comprehensively examine the role of henna leaves in promoting hair growth and provide insights into their efficacy, safety considerations, and optimal application methods. The study begins with an exploration of the phytochemical composition of henna leaves, highlighting the presence of bioactive compounds such as lawsone, tannins, flavonoids, essential oils, and phenolic compounds. These compounds contribute to the potential hair growth benefits of henna leaves. The mechanisms of action underlying the hair growth effects of henna leaves are discussed, including their anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidant activity, stimulation of hair follicle activity, regulation of the scalp microbiome, and nourishing effects on the hair and scalp. These mechanisms create a favorable environment for hair growth and help mitigate hair loss conditions. Clinical studies investigating the efficacy of henna leaves for hair growth are summarized. Findings from randomized, placebo-controlled trials reveal positive outcomes, with improvements in hair density, hair diameter, and the ratio of anagen to telogen hair follicles observed in participants receiving henna extract or henna-based formulations. Safety considerations and potential side effects associated with the use of henna leaves are discussed. While henna leaves are generally considered safe, precautions such as patch testing and ensuring the quality and purity of henna products are emphasized. The review also delves into the application methods of henna leaves for hair growth, providing insights into various techniques and their effectiveness. Additionally, synergistic combinations with other natural ingredients for enhanced hair growth are explored. In conclusion, henna leaves hold promises as a natural remedy for promoting hair growth. The findings highlight the potential of henna leaves in addressing hair loss conditions through their diverse mechanisms of action. However, further research is needed, including large-scale clinical trials, mechanistic investigations, and long-term safety assessments, to establish their efficacy and optimize their use. By considering the phytochemical composition, mechanisms of action, clinical studies, application methods, and safety considerations, individuals can make informed decisions when using henna leaves to promote hair growth. en_US
