Abstract:
Prevention strategies for uterine prolapse play a pivotal role in women's reproductive health and well-being, aiming to mitigate the risk factors associated with this common pelvic floor disorder. The descriptive type of cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the Preventive practice on uterine prolapse among the married women attending at selected hospital in Dhaka City, Bangladesh with a sample size of 212. A pre tested modified interviewer administrated semi structured questionnaires was used to collect the information. The study findings revealed lower abdominal pain (40.1%) and difficulty controlling urine (32.5%) as prevalent symptoms of uterine prolapse. Notably, 36.8% of respondents expressed uncertainty regarding preventive measures. However, practices like adequate rest during the postnatal period (34.9%) and utilizing safe abortion services (29.2%) were endorsed. Additionally, varied beliefs existed regarding effective exercises, with 45.3% considering Kegel exercises most beneficial. Avoiding heavy lifting was intermittently adhered to, with 28.8% always avoiding it. Regarding dietary habits, avoiding constipation was recognized by 29.7% as highly beneficial. Lastly, diverse sources such as health volunteers (29.2%) and health workers (24.1%) were relied upon for information dissemination. This study found that, larger portion (43.9%) demonstrated "Moderate" knowledge, suggesting a basic understanding but potential gaps or misconceptions and only 21.1% of the respondents had good knowledge regarding uterine prolapse prevention. Notably, 34.9% exhibited "Poor" knowledge, indicating significant deficits in understanding uterine prolapse and its management. These findings underscore the need for targeted educational interventions to enhance awareness and adherence to preventive practices for uterine prolapse among women in Bangladesh, especially focusing on exercise routines, dietary habits, and leveraging community health resources effectively. Implementing comprehensive educational campaigns targeting women of all ages, particularly emphasizing the importance of pelvic health maintenance, symptom recognition, and preventive measures.
