Traditional uses for Hibiscus sabdariffa (roselle) include food, herbal drinks, hot and cold beverages, food industry flavoring, and herbal medicine. This study aimed to investigate the phytochemical, thrombolytic, and antioxidant properties of Hibiscus sabdariffa. Phytochemical screening was conducted using various chemical tests to identify the presence of different bioactive compounds. The thrombolytic activity was assessed by measuring the percent inhibition of clot lysis, while the antioxidant activity was determined using the DPPH (2,2- diphenyl- 1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging assay. The results revealed that the plant extract exhibited significant antioxidant and thrombolytic activities compared to the standard compounds. The observed biological activities were correlated with the presence of phytochemicals, suggesting that Hibiscus sabdariffa could be a potential source of natural compounds with therapeutic applications for conditions related to oxidative stress and thrombosis. |
