Abstract:
This research aims to shed light on the health profiles and underlying causes of hospitalization by investigating the demographic features and comorbidities of patients across different age groups who have been admitted to the hospital. Examining demographic variables like age, gender, BMI, smoking status, alcohol use, and educational attainment, the study used computerized medical records from 149 patients at BIRDEM General Hospital. There was a little female preponderance (51.7% vs. 37.6% in the hospitalized sample), and most patients were between the ages of 20 and 30. A normal body mass index was achieved by 56.4% of patients, with 29.5% falling into the overweight or obese categories, highlighting the serious health risks associated with obesity and associated metabolic diseases. While only 4.7% of patients reported drinking alcohol, 31.5% smoked, which may be an indication of cultural or socioeconomic differences. The fact that infectious diseases accounted for 28.9% of hospitalizations and cancers for 30.9% shows that both chronic and acute illnesses are significant problems. In younger individuals, gastrointestinal issues and vomiting were major comorbidities, but hypertension and liver disease were more prevalent in older patients. It is worth mentioning that the incidence of diabetes rose substantially from 37.5% in those younger than 21 to 89% in those between the ages of 61 and 70, highlighting the health hazards linked to becoming older. The need for age-specific mental health therapies is further highlighted by the fact that younger patients had a much higher prevalence of anxiety. It is clear from these results that hospitalized patients have complicated health issues, and that healthcare solutions tailored to different age groups are necessary to meet the demands of this heterogeneous population.
