From the Classroom to the Multimedia Desk My Experience at Dhakapost

Abstract

This paper contains a record of my journey as a professional intern for ten weeks at DhakaPost. com, the avant-garde digital news platform from Bangladesh that’s become famous for its vibrant multimedia storytelling and instant reporting. ”I am a Multimedia Script Writer, and I had the opportunity to see first hand how things are done at that level. This was an internship where I went to shadow folks, learn from doing it myself and help out in the news room in a fast-paced place with creative geniuses. The report presents the organizational structure of Dhaka Post and focuses on the hardworking individuals who work together to make sure everything is running was smoothly as possible in the newsroom. My supervisor, who has been instrumental in molding my learning experience, is very much appreciated for its support and guidance. In this paper, I explain what I did every week and how theory and classroom learning evolved in practice moments in the newsroom. I also outline the tools, equipment and multi-media techniques I used to scriptwrite video news, short explainer pieces and social media content. Professional Development The progress of my professional development, is the central theme to this report. It also helped me further develop my writing skills, taught me more about digital storytelling and accustomed me to the fast pace of online media. It also developed important skills such as multitasking, communicating with others, researching topics and meeting deadlines all qualities needed in the fast-paced media world. In all, this report is meant to contain everything that I have done and learnt during my stay in DhakaPost as an intern. com. It is a reflection on the tasks I did, skills learnt and lessons drawn from all of which will aid in preparing me for my future career as multimedia journalist.
