Internship Report On ExploringTeaching English in a Rural Setting: A Practical Internship Experience at Sonapatila High School, Atowary Upazila.

Abstract

This internship report explores the real-life teaching experience of conducting English classes at Sonapatila High School, a rural institution located in Atowary Upazila. The purpose of this report is to explore the real-life practices of English language teaching in a rural Bangladeshi school, identify challenges faced by learners, and analyze the effectiveness of my teaching approaches through a mixed-method classroom strategy. The internship took place from 1 September to 30 November, during which I observed classrooms, taught lessons to Class 10 students, checked assignments, and conducted reading, writing, grammar, and speaking activities. The main goal was to understand rural English teaching challenges, analyze students’ proficiency, apply theoretical knowledge practically, and develop teaching skills. I observed improvements in student participation, vocabulary development, and writing skills by using a mixed-method approach (GTM+CLT+activity-based learning) However, limitations such as limited resources, mixed proficiency levels, and low exposure to English affected overall progress. This report concludes with key insights, limitations of the rural educational context, recommendations for improvement, and a reflection on how the internship shaped my understanding of teaching as a professional field.
