Learning To Teach English: A Report On Teaching English At "Gourergup Government Primary School".

Abstract

This report documents the essential experiences and key lessons gained during a three-month teaching practice internship at Government Primary School Gourergup, located in a rural area of Karimgonj upazila, Kishoreganj district. The primary goal is to detail my professional journey, encompassing the processes of practical learning, keen observation, and hands-on application within an authentic primary educational setting. The field experience successfully merges the academic theories and knowledge garnered at Daffodil International University with the practical, often demanding realities of primary education in rural Bangladesh. My main responsibilities were teaching English in different classes, preparing lesson plans, assessing students, and actively participating in various school and related activities. It also goes beyond a mere chronological account to a detailed analysis of the school's historical background, socio-economic environment, and specific teaching and learning ethos that characterize these institutions as foundational to young learners at the foundational level of the nation. The most important thing is that this report is a reflection of my growth as an aspiring educator, detailing the specific professional skills built,practical challenges experienced and resolved, and personal development achieved. This formative period in higher education has immensely prepared me to seek entry into a future career in the Bangladesh education sector.
