Abstract:
Digital Image processing has discovered an unbelievable growth and created an important
technological impact in different areas. The most significant application of digital image
processing is image compression. It is the representation of data compression on digital
images. The main objective of this paper is to analyze different parameters like, CR, MSE,
PSNR, BPP, Retained signal energy etc. for lossless and lossy compression. One medical
image is also being analyzed for different resolutions of the images and compared the
results. An improved version of Huffman coding algorithm which is basically useful for
lossless compression, is being used for both lossless and lossy compression in this paper.
Since, Huffman coding algorithm is relatively easier for its simpler mathematical
calculation due to determine the several parameters, that’s why this algorithm is used for
the compression. Histograms of the selected original and reconstructed images have been
examined also.
