dc.description.abstract Language is a way of communication. The English language is an international language. In third world countries this language is used as a second language to communicate with other countries. It is seen that a nation which is good at English can progress economically. As a medium of communication English enjoys the position of world language. So a good English language teaching and learning is of supreme importance to determine the standard of our system of education. We know that every government has a policy to teach English. During the last era the education sector of Bangladesh has been very well organised and updated in congruent with the global standard. But it is a matter of great grief that only by following proper English language policy we can't achieve our ultimate success in English in comparison to other neighbouring countries. We do not also use the right approach in English language teaching. Although the government of Bangladesh is giving emphasis on ELT, in reality our school, colleges do not follow the proper approach in ELT. Some teachers engage their students busy in memorising rules of English language that end in vain. Today, English is the worlds' most widely studied foreign language. So it needs a right approach for teaching and learning. There are some right approaches to ELT. We can use the methodology which is perfect in the classroom and makes student/more attentive in ELT. Here, I have used some methods and found the most effective one. These methods are Direct Approach. Grammar translation Approach, Structural Approach, Oral Approach or Situational language teaching. Audio-lingual Approach, TPR Approach, Silent way Approach, Communicative language teaching approach, Natural Approach, Tasks-based language teaching Approaches etc. en_US
