dc.description.abstract Abstract: The rights of the people particularly the poor women of Haor area are frequently oppressed by domestic violence, fatwa, torture, inhuman behavior and attitudes in the prevailing social, credit slavery, economic and environmental contexts of Bangladesh. This study has been designed to examine the HAOR project Implemented by Environment and Development (IED) and ManusherJonno Foundation (MJF) and aims to develop capacities of the poor and marginalized people in order to raise their voice and represent their interest. Despite the severity of poverty and the magnitude of economic, social and practical challenges, there have been prospects of Bangladesh meeting most of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). The MDGs could be achieved through putting appropriate focus on the extreme poor especially on women, addressing their vulnerability and risks, promoting access of the poor to resources and institutional constraints including those local government. Finding show that under such circumstances or social reality, a project like this has assembled the rural poor women, attempted for their social and economic empowerment and succeeded in reducing discrimination against women, ultra poor and vulnerable segments of the society control on resources, strengthened the local government, etc. en_US
