Abstract:
Linux is, in simplest terms, an operating system. It is the software on a computer that
enables applications and the computer operator to access the devices on the computer
to perform desired functions. The operating system (OS) relays instructions from an
application to, for instance, the computer's processor. The processor performs the
instructed task, then sends the results back to the application via the operating system.
The internship involved setting up of an ISP server Administration along with the
various services offered. The title of the internship is “Server Setup and
Administration using Linux Server Operating System”. The aim of the internship was
to learn how to setup a Linux server and configure the different services usually
provided by ISPs.
The first part of the internship report gives an overview of Linux Operating System
and server details. Second part discusses about the basic commands, the vi editor,
network configuration and Red hat Package Manager. Subsequently, how to configure
various service like FTP, DNS, Proxy, Web server are discussed. In this part the
testing details are given. As the entire work was done practically, a lot was learned
regarding set up and testing of the individual ISP services.
